league history

The Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League began when two young women, who grew up in Lake Highlands, decided there was a need in the neighborhood for a group that would capitalize on the energy and talents of young women in it. The goal was to create a social organization in order for the young women to establish roots and relationships in the neighborhood, while at the same time having a positive impact on the community. In 2004, six young women, all graduates of Lake Highlands High School from 1989-1997, formed a steering committee. In November 2004, 85 charter members held the first general meeting and represented what is now LHJWL. In April 2005, we held our first annual "Run the Highlands" 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Walk. In April 2018, we added our first 10K to the "Run the Highlands" 5K and Family Walk. We currently have more than 125 members and have raised over $1 million for the Lake Highlands Community in the last 20 years.

The Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League is the Junior group of the Lake Highlands Women’s League which was founded in 1969 by Lynn Davenport, Sarah Graham, Sarah Hefton, Amy Moore, Meredith Mosley and Cary Woodall to unite and promote the Lake Highlands area through service to the community by civic, educational, and charitable programs.
